Florida has the most cycling accidents in the country and Miami-Dade County ranks first of all the state's counties. In 2020, the Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles notes there were 5,082 reported bicycle crashes, despite vehicle traffic having decreased by 40%.
127 of those 2020 bicycle accidents were fatal. One of those lives lost was a teenager from our area who was struck and killed last August while crossing the street.
Let's keep our kids safe. Bicycle safety, proper cycling etiquette and how to avoid being a statistic are important to learn. Sign your child up today for our Annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo and then join Chief Diaz and other officers on a ride around the neighborhood, this Sunday, April 25th. The event is free to children aged 6-12. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Full details and registration at http://TinyURL.com/bhipd-app
