The Shepard Broad Causeway is a toll road located in the Town of Bay Harbor Islands. The Causeway is wholly owned, maintained and operated by the Town and is named after the Town's founder and first Mayor, Shepard Broad.
Dubbed “Shepard’s Folly”, after the Legislature authorized Mayor Broad to build the causeway in 1947, it opened in 1951 and now plays a critical role in carrying over 22,000 commuters between the beaches and mainland of Miami-Dade County over the navigable Intracoastal Waterway via the Town's bascule drawbridge.
Use of the Causeway requires payment of the toll when traveling both east and west through the toll. For more information on toll rates and SunPass, please choose the appropriate link on the right side of the page.
